Different strokes: Blake through to 3rd round
NEW HAVEN — Sir James Blake was not the seeded player in Wednesday's match, but that was merely a technicality. On a hardcourt, in Connecticut, with Blake playing some of the best tennis of his career, it would have been more of an upset if the result were reversed.
Blake, of Fairfield, pounded 10th-seeded Filippo Volandri into submission Wednesday afternoon at Connecticut Tennis Center's Stadium Court, losing just seven service points the entire match in a 6-1, 6-3 second-round victory in the Pilot Pen tennis tournament.
It was the second-straight convincing win for Blake, who will face either Tommy Haas in the third round tonight at 7 in the featured evening session match.
