Drivers in for shock today
If you put off getting gasoline Tuesday, you're going to pay the price. A spot check of stations in the region Tuesday night revealed staggering increases over the day before.
The Pilot Travel Center in Milford, for example, increased its price for regular to $2.79 a gallon, a 23-cent rise over Monday. "It's the biggest single-day jump in prices I've seen in five years with the company," Doug Lepper, Pilot general manager said. "It's incredible."
At the Cumberland Farms on the Boston Post Road, also in Milford, things were much the same, with the price hitting $2.84.
Gas almost appeared to be a bargain at the Shell station at 4402 Main Street in Bridgeport, where it was $2.63, up only 4 cents over Monday.
This from a concerned driver:
I just wanted to report price gouging at the pump. The Gulf/Cumberland station on the corner of West Broad street in Stratford, near exit 32. . .this morning on the way to work 87-grade gas was $2.52. . . at lunch it was up to $2.61. . .and when I just came home it is now $2.76!!! an increase of 24 cents in one day!! This cannot be related to Katrina. —Barbara
