Huskies ease into campaign
There are a couple of ways to look at the 2005 version of the UConn football team.
"I know we're a much more talented and athletic team than we've ever been," said coach Randy Edsall, who is entering his seventh season with the Huskies. "I also know that we're a much more inexperienced and youthful team than we've ever been in the past."
With new starters at quarterback, middle linebacker and three offensive line positions, it could take time for the Huskies to gel. With that in mind, it's a good thing UConn's schedule is back-loaded.
UConn, which went 8-4 last season and won its first bowl game, has a relatively easy non-conference schedule — aside from a Sept. 17 date at Georgia Tech. The Huskies would love to pile up a few victories before sinking their teeth into what is likely to be a challenging second go-round in the Big East.
Edsall certainly wouldn't call his team's early games "easy," but says he likes the way his team's schedule breaks down.
"I'd much rather play our non-conference games first and then get into the conference," Edsall said. "Every game is important, but I'm a guy that would much rather play the non-conference first."
