State made case for its sub base
In the end, an all-out unified and bipartisan effort by Connecticut officials and residents completed 2005's top state mission: keeping open the submarine base in Groton.
The federal Base Closure and Realignment Commission voted 7 to 1 Wednesday to remove the base — formally known as the U.S. Naval Submarine Base New London — from a national base-closure list it will submit next month to President Bush.
