Readers come to aid of Monroe food pantry
Reporter Tony Spinelli wrote a story earlier this month about the Monroe Food Pantry's urgent appeal for donations in advance of the holiday season. "We are at the lowest level of supplies in years," Lori Capril, Monroe's director of social services, told Spinelli. Well, the community responded. In the first two business days following the publication of the story, 18 people made contributions totaling $1,775 to the pantry. Most of the donors were from Monroe, but one each came from Trumbull and Bridgeport.

Schedule wrong for Power Points football contest
If you're playing along at home with the Power Points football contest in each Sunday's SportsPlus, you've undoubtedly noticed that the schedule of games that appeared Sept. 16 was incorrect. We'll remedy that by publishing the correct contest form on Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the sports section. So that will only give you a couple of days to get your picks in.

Puzzle people cross with us
Sunday's Connecticut Post prize puzzle on page C4 contained an error, and passionate players of the game have been quick to let us know. What's missing is the clue for No. 6 down. We've put in a call to the puzzle syndicator so we can pass along a correction on page A2 of the newspaper as soon as possible. But figuring it out seems pretty straighforward. By solving the relatively simple Nos. 8 and 13 across you'll have the correct answer.

Luck yes, but it takes skill
Sometimes it's being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes it's just plain talent. In the case of Post photographer Christian Abraham, it's certainly the talent, but a little luck never hurts. Christian's much-published photo of the Jose Offerman bat outburst at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard last month has earned distinction as the Associated Press national photo of the month.
Christian was assigned to the Bluefish game against Long Island at the last minute when a slow August night offered little else of interest. Who knew an attack of Juan Marichal proportions would've taken place?
