    Happy Birthday Mr. Fischer!

BobbyIn case you didn't know, today is Bobby's birthday. Robert James Fischer was born in Chicago on March 9, 1943 and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Bobby became the 11th world chess champion — and the first American to do so at 29 — by defeating then-champion Boris Spassy of Russia (and the entire chess hegemony) in an epic battle in 1972. He ruled the chess world for three short years (1972-1975) before losing his FIDE crown (by default!) to another rising juggernaut — Anatoly Karpov.

Bobby, who just turned 63, currently lives in Iceland.
