Nice Pick (Masuk 16, Pomperaug 6)

This was probably the play of last night's Masuk-Pomperaug game.

With time running down and Pomperaug with a second and goal at the 6, Masuk's Justin Kollman rips a pass out of the arms of Pomperaug's Mike Leonetti to keep Pomperaug scoreless going into halftime.

Video of the thrilling end to the first half below:

Masuk scored on its first possession of the third quarter on this nifty catch by receiver Eric Green (6 catches, 80 yards) and Masuk's defense did the rest in the 16-6 victory. (I was in the press box starting to write the story for the paper when this play happened, hence the fuzzy quality. But the perspective is pretty neat):

And, finally, a nice play by Justin Conte (6 - who's having a tremendous year, by the way) catching a bubble screen pass and slipping 16 yards for Masuk's first touchdown on the opening drive of the game:

Masuk is indeed back in the playoff race. And looked mighty fine doing it. Pomperaug now hosts Stratford in a game Stratford needs to all but punch its ticket to the SWC title game.
