Where's Bowley?
It took a month and change, but questions about my conspicuous absence from the sports pages has finally started to reach my ears (and via text message).
No. I haven't left the Connecticut Post, run off and joined a mountaineering club (as this pic of me atop Sleeping Giant might suggest).
Yes. I am still an employee in the sports department.
Yes. I am no longer in charge of covering high school sports...
...sort of.
I have a new position here as the Sports Producer of Hearst Connecticut Media Group Interactive, which is another way of saying I'm the sports editor of the Connecticut Post and its Fairfield County affiliates owned by the Hearst Corporation.
I will be organizing and producing content -- both print and multimedia -- for the Post, The Advocate of Stamford, the NewsTimes of Danbury and the Greenwich Time.
It's a fresh new job created to keep up with the news media's furious attempt to find a niche in the digital world. As many of you are aware, newspapers are changing and it's my job to make our papers your first source for all local and regional sports news.
Local events, local colleges (including UConn) and -- especially -- high school sports will be our primary focus. It's our mission to write the best stories, feature the best columnists and bloggers, and produce can't miss videos, podcasts and interactive features you won't find anywhere else.
We have a lot of work to do in the coming months. And we have only just started. I've been kind of holed up in the Connecticut Post office the last few weeks, but you should start to see me again toward the end of the spring season and into the summer as we barrel -- once again--toward my favorite time of year: high school football season. I'll still blog on this space, so keep checking back. We also hope to bring a whole cadre of other contributors into the mix to get some different perspectives.
So wish me and the rest of the sports staff well as we reinvent ourselves to give you the absolute best sports coverage in Connecticut.
If anybody has any suggestions or comments, feel free to drop me a line at sbowley@ctpost.com
Otherwise, we'll see you soon,
Sean Patrick Bowley

what is the best team that bunnell has ever had?
01 makes a claim because of shannon james.
04 says there the best.
07 and 08 each say they were best.
whats your thoughts?

2007 - Won the SWC (only 08 can claim that feat); beat a top-notch Staples team in a championship game (the one 08 beat wasn't nearly as good); and featured many of the same 08 stars plus a few others.

Dawgs, are you talking about graduation classes? Because, for example, the first bunnell football playoff team's senior class played in the '03 season but graduated 2004.

how can 01 be the best without winning a championship classic bunnell fans always looking for something not there if you next they will cry about bruno not winning enough games or mastroni should have won more championships how come they dont worry about the other sports at bunnell only complain about football
Posted by: o45 at May 20, 2009 9:43 PM
shannon james team would have won championship if bruno was the coach
Posted by: leelee at May 21, 2009 10:16 PM
does anyone know what bruno`s career record is how can you be sure he would have won it with shannon mastroni did a great job and i am sure he has more wins than bruno
Posted by: swc truth at May 23, 2009 12:15 AM
that could be true. class of 08 (07 season) balled out
Posted by: dawgs04 at May 24, 2009 4:04 AM
after playing in the swc on the field against both the '07 class and '08 class.. '08 was a better team. harrison was not a factor the prior year and the defense didn't budge that year
Posted by: former player at May 25, 2009 9:04 PM
01 team had the best D.. There 1st defense gave up like 5 touchdowns all year, and they only played 3 complete games... shannon didn't play in the SWC championship game and they lost 14-7...(by the way he's the best player to come out of bunnell.. Jus read his college n pro bio.. N who's the last person to play in the nfl from bunnell???) there were only 4 classes back then n they went 9-1 and did not make it, jus like the 06 team but there are 6 classes now.. They needed help to make states... if they played back in 01 they wouldn't have made states.. and they got blown out by stratford.. The 01 team never got blown out... lost 7-3 to masuk in the regular season..

great post bulldogs22 but you forgot 07 they were undefeated and would have made it any year also the stfd team that beat 06 had virgina s next starting rb on it also to dawgs 04 what could be true in conclusion 07 wins best team and best class ever
Posted by: 24bbal fball at May 26, 2009 10:11 PM
24bbal fball u bring up some great points. but me and you both kno the 06 team was better than 07. the 01 team ran out of the wishbone and avg over 35 points a game. imagine if they ran the spread wit shannon and gary, i mean the kid had 27 touchdowns rushing and only got the ball 12-15 times a game, now bunnell's qb's throw it 40 times a game.every game the 01 was supposed to win they dominated, they didnt have close games. the 04 team is not in this argument, they got blown out 3 times by 3 different teams that year. end of story with them. yea they (07) went undefeated but when your a great team u dominate. they had a game where they gave up 42 points to barlow. they would have lost to stratford if the ref did not blow the call on the goal line. they beat a sub par masuk team 3 times. for the 06 team it doesnt matter that stratford had torrey mack, that is still no excuse to get beat 40-8. the state needs to only have 4 classes anyways. this is not texas or florida. 4 classes shows TRUE state champs

I can't believe you guys have turned this into a 'Which was the Best Bunnell football team of all-time' debate.
Not complaining, just incredulous. Post away.

Didn't Bruno interview at Warde and Naugy this off season? What happened? Any knowledge would be appreciated.
Posted by: Slake at May 28, 2009 10:38 AM
bulldogs22 - shannons the best player, hands down. i made this post not to ask who would have been the best of all time if they had done this or done that. the 07 season team won 13 games. the 01 class won 9. 07 didnt lose a game, and the 01 class did lose. maybe if they ran the spread it would have been different, but in reality, the 07 team was the best there ever was. sure barlow got 42, but bunnell still hung 62 on them. even if the ref blew the call, stratford would have still been losing, do the math. masuk was not subpar, they are a good team. the 07 class didnt need any help getting into the playoffs, they were the #1 seed. the 06 class needed a miracle and they got it. so i guess the real question would be who is hte best out of the 01, 06 and 07 classes
Posted by: dawgs04 at May 28, 2009 12:43 PM
oh yea and dont forget that the 06 and 07 stratford team not only had torrey mack, but the also had ox whos just as good.
bulldogs22 - stop with the 'what - ifs' 06 and 07 are the only classes that have any hardware, so they can only really say they were best
Posted by: dawgs04 at May 28, 2009 12:49 PM
bunnell would have won more if bruno was the head coach on shannon s team believe me i was on that team and everyone who played for him knows he would be the difference
Posted by: bunnell alum at May 28, 2009 6:17 PM
i heard naugy and derby offered bruno but warde didnt want him bunnell is not that good anyway murphy who has way more championships than bruno def interviewed at notre dame i dont know why no one will hire him he is the best coach around i dont like bunnell but as long as murphy doesnt go for a job you would have to be real soft to not hire bruno
Posted by: bhs overr at May 29, 2009 3:48 AM
how many more championships does murphy have than bunnell? cause if im not mistaken bruno and bunnell has owned murphy and masuk the past 2 years
