Broken
DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK. For some of us it's right around the corner, for others it's a trek. Regardless, the ride back and forth during the strike is different, and not in a good way. Music is caffeine to some, the news can help others.
I do both, back and forth, kind of like the clicker for cable. And for the general train of thought I thank Bob Dylan.
Everything is broken
Strikebreaker
broken off talks
unbroken chain
broken arrow
broken promises
broke and needin' fixin'
aint broke, don't fix it
broken marraige
brokeback mountain
broken lines of communication
broken hearted
broken plumbing
broken chain of command
resolve unbroken
just plain broke
broken spirit
Dealbreaker
These are the mixed images that I have come in contact with over this time. All the above can apply to one "side," either or both; it's a matter of perception.
Last but not least regarding the comments section: the lack of rules has unfortunately created a breeding ground for idiots. This is serious stuff here. If you want to chat, go to a chat room. If you have a story about the strike or a feeling, voice it. Logic and examples helps but at least say it from the heart.
Broken balls.

I Personally feel betrayed by thos whose voted for this strike, the union and myself for not speakinig up more before this happened. We have betrayed ourselves and our community. If you want to see our future and what jobs we will have in the next few years just take a ride to the South End of Stratford and look at the Army Engine Plant. Next drive past Wal-Mart and Home Depot. We are all going to be begging for jobs at Wal-Mart and Home Depot after this. We can now look forward to is Sik looking for somewhere else to move our jobs to. Sorry Brothers and Sisters but I'm going back to work, while I still can, for my family and the town. I hope you do put my name on the wall of shame. I won't have any shame while I watch my kids eating dinner, and write a check to pay the mortage this month. I hope the rest of you and the union come to thier senses soon. This is not worth .31 cents

I have my letter all set to be sent to Teamsters 1150. My chain is about to break and if there is no movement by Friday AM, It is being sent. The survival of the Union is "knock knock knocking on heavens door" Believe it!

One thing is for certain that no one can deny, the amount of people on the line is dwindling day by day and the number of recognizable faces going in the plant getting jeered is getting bigger day by day.

People... this is about $$ not feelings. When you are not in the mob on the picket line, what goes thru your head? Real thoughts of going broke...right? Does this sound familiar...
" We recomend not taking the package. Vote NO!"
Yup Did you think about it before the mob mentality set in? I did and I still do. We are at the point where it is now going to cost you more than you planned. Cut your losses because you will get not, nada, nothing from the Teamsters when the bill collector(s) start calling. Oh yea, Don't get sick either.

started working and almost made back my lost wages. this company has been great to me and i refuse to turn up my nose to them. medical was reinstated as of the first day of strike. makes my wife very relaxed. everyone is upbeat.overtime is great and i have a green badge. like i never left. other than the amount of people. had to pay 175$ for perscription before i came back but will be reimbursed, life is great at sikorsky. every one come back home... now

I noticed they opened more parking today. More people must be crossing the line. Is it time to end this?
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 6:55 AM
Get over it and welcome to the real world. Medical coverage costs! If you don't like it, don't blame the company for it, blame your legislators. Pay attention to the issues at election time. You work for a company that pays the best wages around. Most of us would love to be able to get a job there. I know I would. If you want that company to stay competetive, and yourselves employed, it is worth the 31 cents. Take a look around, jobs are leaving CT in droves, do you want Sikorsky to pull up stakes and go south? Keep striking, I would bet it wouldn't take long! It's my understanding that most people didn't read the contract when they went to vote, they just listened to what the union said. The people who didn't read the contract were followers, blindly following the false prophets. Be leaders, don't screw yourselves, and your families. The Union doesn't care about you. The Union isn't going to help you pay your mortgage, your car payments, your medical. You can lose all that you've worked so hard for and you will be left holding your hands on your a#*. The union wants your money to line their pockets and that's it. If they can whip you into a frenzy and get you into their "you owe it to me" mentality you're no better than a caged rat!

In case anyone is wondering about what kind of reception they will receive if they go back, you can expect a lot of hate and hostility... but not from salaried people, from Teamsters. My husband welcomed back one of his hourly employees yesterday and was very glad to have him back. Hubby was never the type of guy who would lead from an office or from behind a desk, he was always the type to want to roll up his sleeves and get to work alongside his employees. Unionism does not allow for that, but this strike has opened the door. Hubby is in there elbow deep every single day and loves it so much, he would do it even if he weren't getting paid for the OT. Now he has one of his guys back and they are working side by side. It's a wonderful thing, how positive, productive and respectful relationships can develop between salaried supervisors and hourly workers when there is no union interference. I hope this kind of thing continues and that eventually Local 1150 ceases to exist. But even if it does, I fear it will be too late to save Sikorsky's presence in CT.

WHERE'S ROCCO? A LEADER NEEDS TO LEAD ESPECIALLY DURING TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY.
The last that was heard from him, was that he was going to Hollywood to audituon for the lead in "ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCOOS NEST!"

I have an observation I would like to share with both sides of this conflict. The Company Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is offloading both manufacturing and engineering jobs at a rate that is mine boggling. Our State politicians are trying to fine ways to stop jobs from leaving Connecticut but continue to promote an outdated property tax system that directly effects Connecticut based companies ability to stay competitive. Along comes the Teamster local 1150 with their union leader brain trust that has chosen to take on Goliath (UTX) with over 200,000 employees world wide. Does anyone else see a Greek Tragedy developing here?
I have to ask the union leaders if any of them are old enough to remember the following companies.
Remington Arms
Bullards
Farrell Corporation
Avco Lycoming
Colt Firearms
Winchester Firearms
Jenkin Valves
Basset Casters
Etc…
“Those that do not know their history are doomed to repeat it.

I'd like to advise folks, too, that not everything they read here from a salaried or pro-company perspective is necessarily written by the company, company-paid consultants or part of a whisper campaign. I seriously doubt the company has given this blog much notice, unless it would be to monitor which way the tide is turning. But I do know that I am not paid by the company or anyone else for my opinion and I am sure the same is true of just about everyone who comments on this blog. So take it for what it's worth. Double check your facts, make sure you know the whole truth and make your own decisions. For all we know, the anti-company commentary here could be planted by the union. And we all know how truthful the union has been...!

I'm curious. Does Rocco's salary and benefits stop during the strike. Is his salary from the union limited to the $232/week (if dues have been paid). Just a thought?
Posted by: Bystander at March 8, 2006 7:59 AM
Somebody mentioned the Army Engine plant. I used to work there. The union didn't save my job. I was in skilled trades, I had the union shirts, the journeyman's card, I was one of the guys that would go at the drop of a hat. Funny thing is I still believe there are places that don't have unions that desperately need them, even after mine left me high and dry. I also believe there are places that need them, but need a different one than they have, as well as places that are better off without a union at all. Which one are you guys, think about it? At the rate you're going I think you could at least use somebody else looking out for you. By the way, your union's not worried about you trying to get rid of them, because they know how exceedingly difficult it is for the employees to get rid of a union once they have one, regardless of how badly the membership wants to dump the union. Unions, even today can be a really good thing for those represented, or they can be just a dues collecting drain on the employees that they really don't serve. Which one are you guys in? Oh yeah, don't forget the union, any union, is a business too. It's product is supposed to be service to it's members and it's source of income is your dues. Are you paying for something and getting little in return. UAW 1010 at least gave me something in return for my dues, maybe not all that I expected but I got something, how about you? Oh, just to be fair, when I worked in plants that had another UAW local or UREW they were worthless. So you see I have seen good and bad. I know the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) rules, maybe you should too, I've been around and even after everything I still believe there are plenty of good things that can be said for some unions. You guys need to think about this and figure out who's leading who and to what? I don't work for Sikorsky, Dad did for 35 years, so I have no axe to grind, just thought I owed it to fellow union members to give a different perspective. Good luck, you're gonna need it at the rate you're going. Life is full of choices and we are measured by the one's we make as well as the one's we try to avoid making or don't make at all. Some serious pucker time is headed your way I think, good luck whatever you decide, but you need to decide. Decide what's best for all of you, together. That's what "brotherhood" is about, putting aside some of your personal desires to do what's best for all. The good of the many versus the good of the few, choices, making difficult ones with your head held high regardless of what you personally want. Doing the right thing is what makes a man or woman stand out in the crowd.

Thanks to John Gozzi for remembering the forgotten ones ( 3rd shifters). We ARE holding strong on the line. We actually had an increase in walkers Monday night which was good to see. I've come to the realization that the company wont budge on the 80/20 medical, but that does not mean that they can't bargain in other areas of the contract. The contract in whole was not favorable to the union men and women of local 1150. At least the union made attempts to the company (givebacks in the 2000 signing bonus and a cut in the 3 1/2 % raise) to get this thing settled. Why can't the company bargain in good faith. If they are so adament on the 80/20 then why don't they offer a better bonus, better raise, better pension, to show that they are bargaining in good faith. We the union can't take it on the chin in every aspect of the contract. Most of us have 20+ (myself 27) years to this company. We deserve..no have earned the right to live a decent life. I want to be able to send my child to college. I want to be able to retire comfortably. Because we are blue collared workers we ARE NOT second class citizens to the white collar. Give me a 5% raise, bring my pension in line with the salary employee ( 45 versus 62 )dollars per year of service. What gives the white collar a right to enjoy their retirement more than the blue collar. I think boths sides need to get to the table and work out other issues besides the medical to make the contract a little more favorable than it is now. If they wanted the 80/20 soo bad, why such a big jump in the weekly contributions. Why not at least back down some on them. Do they really have to sock us with a 180% for the life of this contract proposal. Thats 50% already from the last year of our contract..status quo for this year then a 100% increase...the 15% increase..then the 15% for 6 weeks..thats 180%...not to mention the ratification of a new contract where the contributions will undoubtly go up again. Stay strong brothers and sisters. As most I'm not afraid to sign my name and hide behind a curtain. My brothers and sisters know who I am...JC

I am repeating yesterday's post with the hope that I can change some minds which, in turn, will change others, and then others, and then.......
As a retired Sikorsky employee and concerned observer of this unfortunate strike, I hope that you, the strikers, will soon understand that both sides of your picket line have a common "enemy" that you should be "fighting" together, rather than each other. That enemy is our BROKEN NATIONAL HEALTH CARE SYSYEM. You will then realize that we have reached the point in this country where neither companys nor employees (both hourly and salary) can continue to absorb the rising cost of this broken health care system.
Unfortunately, those with the power to fix the system are state and federal government employees, who only have to raise your taxes to pay their rising health care costs !!!!!
I agree that a rally should be held and it should be as big and loud as you can make it. However, it should not be held in Stratford ,it should be held in Hartford and Washington, where our elected officials will hear your voices and do the job that they are paid (a hell of a lot more than you are) to do.

You show the arrogance of the union everytime you guys complain about the company not bargaining in good faith.
OPEN YOU EYES BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE
You walk around with signs saying UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE and you sayt he company didn't do anything but shove teh healthcare on you.
I must have been dreaming, but didn't the company want to change your shifts to 4 day work weeks!?
Oh ya, how soon you forget about that, since they in good faith dropped that, to their disadvantage.
Get a job at home depot, then you will feel undercompensation. You represent greed, and nothing more. gimme gimme gimme

I find it funny that nobody talks about the $80,000 to $100,000 in tuition that it costs to get a degree, just so that a person can get into a salary job at a place like SAC. You think maybe that's why their pensions are slightly higher? How much does it cost to pay those loans back month by month? Think. There is a class structure in this country, or at least there used to be and should be. Should we strive for a nation where it's more profitable NOT to make something of yourself? Drop the hourly vs. salary nonsense. Respect to all those who are skilled and work hard and are proud of what they are, blue collar, white collar, whatever. Take care.

Why don't the Unions all get together and take this fight for reasonable healthcare to Washington?
I was just wondering how many Teamsters voted for George W the "HEALTHCARE" candidate?
Posted by: joe contractor at March 8, 2006 9:04 AM
I agree with Steve N. to a point. I do believe that this strike is not what is causing Sikorsky to leave, but it sure as hell made it easier for them to do it. Sikorsky WANTED this strike, that much is obvious. They very cleverly maneuvered the union into striking, which gives them all the impetus they need to relocate the plant to a cheaper state. Would they have done it without the strike? You betcha! It just would have taken longer to accomplish. This strike gives Sikorsky the ability to make it happen lickety split.
I disagree with the negativity shown to those of us who choose to post anonymously. Showing your name doesn't automatically convey validity to your viewpoint. In fact, for some of you, showing your name guarantees that no one will take you seriously. Food for thought.

TEAMSTER LOCAL 1150 MEMBERS...
The Local 1150 Executive Board has issued a request that all strikers walking the picket lines control their language. Comments made toward cars, especially those driven by women, should be kept clean. Anything other than this is contrary to the image that Teamsters Local 1150 has always portrayed.
For members who are picketing in Stratford. If you must walk on Rt. 110 (Main St.) please do not walk on the road. The police want all foot traffic to be behind the guardrail. Police have asked that all Stratford picketers please cross Main St. at the traffic lights so that they may ensure that you do so safely.
Union Hall is compiling a LOST & FOUND box. Several items have been found on the picket lines, including keys, etc. If you have lost an item on the picket lines please come down to union hall and see if it is here.
The optician who sells safety glasses inside the company (Ray Knapp) has glasses for some of our members. If you ordered glasses and they are paid for, you can pick them up at his office on Main Street in Bridgeport during normal business hours.

The most sensible comment I have heard here yet. I am also a third shifter and was pleased to be recognized if only once for the fact that we are there when everyone else sleeps. I too, am not afraid to sign my name here.
You are right. If the company is so adamant to have the 20/80 than perhaps they can compensate us in another manner. Many people have worked there for many years and they deserve better.
It seems that the mudslingers forgot where they got the benefits that they enjoy today(The Union)and the company forgot how they arrived at the affluence that they enjoy today(us the 20+ yr workers).
The company could at least talk with the union. Is that too much to ask for a lifetime of service from loyal employees and the current affluence that they enjoy?
Those members dissing the union need to remember how they got where they are today because "United we stand and divided we fall."
See you Thursday!!

Okay, I said my piece as a bystander with experience in these things and no really vested interest in it. I don't work there nor do I live in Stratford. Have any of you noticed even your union reps, posting information about strike checks and other supposed important "official" information won't even use initials, their all "anonymous". You should listen to me I have been on both sides of these things in my time. I have even sat in front of the judge to answer supposed unfair labor practice charges against me in labor court. Here you go in terms you can understand: You are getting hosed by your union who are using you to make a statement. They can promise you the world and yet they have no obligation to deliver anything. The "company" is doing what companies do; acting in their own best interest regardlessof it's in the best interest of any particular employee. That's it, it is a business afterall. Yes, it is personal if the business gets done to you, but it is still just business practice in this country. Sikorsky didn't create the healthcare problem and the Teansters aren't going to fix it. Don't get me wrong the Teamsters even with the excesses of the past have done a lot of really good things over time, what thy're doing to you just isn't one of them. Wake up and smell the coffee, isn't it just possible that the union is selling you a bill of goods it has no hope of delivering? Others have written about the healthcare problem, it wasn't created overnight nor will it be solved that way. You however need to save some vestige of what yuou have that is an awful lot better than most other folks working in manufacturing today in Connecticut. Cut the us versus them garbage, salary versus hourly trash talk. Stand up and make an informed decision. Get the information you need, actually think before you write or say something, or vote for that matter. It's your future not mine good luck as you sink into the pit of being so certain that you've earned what you don't have. I rebuilt my life after AVCO can you? I've always had a job, will you? A fair days pay for a fair days work, safe working conditions, these are the things unions were founded on. Not the whiny "I want, I want" that permeates unions like yours today. I won't write again as I'll be too busy laughing at your folly. Remember I've been there, I hope you don't have to go where I've been, but it sure looks like you're buying your tickets for the trip.

I choose not to post my name because of the negativity of all too many posters. Is there anything wrong with posting factual and useful information within this cess pool of propaganda???

I have to comment on these "Huge increases in co-pays" the union is yelling about. We changed our insurance to the salary plan when the strike started.(The same plan the union is against) My husband is salary, I'm hourly. Weekly payment is $50 and the Dr. co-pay is $20. Prescriptions went up $1. I don't see that as being HUGE! In fact under the circumstances, it's pretty reasonable. I think we haven't been told the whole story by our "Union Leaders", that we can't find.
Yes we are lucky to be in this situation but we have also worked hard to get in this position.

In resonse to: "I hope Jodi gives them hell for what they are doing to 3600 TAXPAYERS! Not to mention the Town of Stratford!"
I fail to see how the company brought about this situation. The police are not there to protect the company, they are there to protect the picketers and enable their right to demonstrate. Sikorsky did not vote to strike, the union members did. Grow up and take responsibility for your own actions and stop blaming all of life's hardships on your generous company that offers you an over-inflated wage and excellent benefits package in exchange for mediocre work, a sickening lack of respect and general bad attitude. Your claims to entitlement disgust the general public, including the Stratford taxpayers and I think we all know who the biggest taxpayer in Stratford is... SIKORSKY.

JC, if you read this, again, great post, maybe next time we vote on a contract, you, Goz, throw in TC, and whoever, you will represent our union, you could do what these guys are doing now, and maybe get better cooperation with UTC? See ya soon !

I'd like to address a comment by Christine, "If the company is so adamant to have the 20/80 than perhaps they can compensate us in another manner. Many people have worked there for many years and they deserve better."
Christine, honey, believe me, you are getting all you deserve and more. You can take that however you like. As for compensating you, you are already getting more compensation than you actually EARN. Perhaps you could have someone look that word up in a dictionary for you and tell you what it means. You obviously don't know.

This way they can avoid all the hoopla and BS.

Once again, not all comments from the salaried side are necessarily from salaried employees. I have posted several comments that are pro-company and I don't even work for Sikorsky. I just don't agree with unionism, I think it has brought down more people than it has supported in recent years.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 1:57 PM
Some unions are good, I think 1150 is playing the members here big time, sounds like most are so confused they do not know which way to turn.
Posted by: ANTI-Hoffa at March 8, 2006 1:59 PM
I think Sikorsky should take the day off tomorrow. I mean, who is this big production supposed to influence, anyway? The taxpayers who are going to have to foot the bill for the cops in the form of increased taxes and reduction in services? Oh, yeah, they'll be pleased. And if this rally is just to encourage union members to stick together, they could probably do that better just by COMMUNICATING FACTUAL INFORMATION with them. I fully expect to see a big top erected in front of the plant any second now... something needs to house these circus freaks now that they can't pay their mortgages.

Dam, the way you use it, is spelled damn. It isn't dislexic, it's dyslexic. For future reference, the first word in a sentence is capitalized. Now that we've all had our grammar lesson, can we please stop spell-checking each other and just focus on the issues?!

Hello fellow union members with some brains! I hope and pray that after Hoffa's big bang on thursday, Rocco will stop thinking of himself and start thinking of his union brothers and sisters that he has thrown to the curb. I will not attend this rally it's a joke. Noone should go in my eye's. rocco should have this all settled before the union meeting on march 15th if he doesn't there could be some fights good against evil. We want to go back to work with some pride not thru a picket line. But if this lost cause of a strike continues the wall of shame will grow like weeds on a hot summer day. This will mean a broken union so rocco fix it before this happens.

John Gozzi, maybe you should do an article on the gentelman that was wrongfully accused of being a scab. That was a sad situation
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 2:10 PM
People seem to forget that the main reason that UTC wants to implement the proposed health care plan is so they will no longer have to pay the cost of administering multiple plans. When 200,000 employees are in one plan and 3600 are in a different plan, it seems reasonable that they would want to put everyone on one plan. On this point, I wouldn't expect the company to ever capitulate. Hopefully, union leadership will realize this and everyone can come in from the cold. Keep pimpin'
Posted by: 3rdfloorpimp at March 8, 2006 2:11 PM

WAKE UP...YOU ARE LIVING IN THE PAST....
Take it like men and women and move on.
DON'T MAKE MY FAMILY and I and the REST OF STRATFORD SUFFER as you burdon the town of Stratford for a half million dollars and close all the roads tommorrow..
What a bunch of babies. Can't be a good hard worker so you hide behind your weak union.

GO TO WORK, support your family and be happy with the $1250 a week you get!

Mr. Gozzi brings up a good point in today's blog entry... what of the marriages at stake here? My husband and I have never fought over money, mostly because we've never had any money to fight over in the first place. But I would imagine that there may be some spouses who want their strikers back to work and bringing in that paycheck. If it becomes a matter of whom to support, your union or your family, what do you choose? How do you make that choice? If you choose to continue striking over the wishes of your spouse, then how do you go on from there? Does family loyalty not come first? Just some questions. I am glad I am not in this boat, but I feel for those people - the families - whose lives are being ruined by this, especially when the striker is a family member and they have no say in the decision-making.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 2:13 PM
How come no one can get it into their brains. UTC will never cave on this issue. If every other subsidiary has this plan it would be a disaster to let Sikorsky have a different plan. You can also bet that Wall St. has relayed this info to UTC and has given advice on how they would like to see them proceed. This issue is far bigger than 3600 people in CT.
Posted by: ANTI-Hoffa at March 8, 2006 2:14 PM

For the union to say the company will abuse you if you go back that is such B.S. The company seems to be the only one that cares. Offering us a job back with the same pay and medical back to the start of the strike. Boy if that is abuse I can't wait for the company to be good to me.

I mailed the letter this morning to the union; I'm going back to work.....

George David is never going to concede.
The only thing in life that's consistent is change. You either change with the times or get trampled on.
Please people, wake up, go back to work, support our troops in these troubled times, and support your families.
Good luck, and God bless all of you
P.S. I call myself "severely disappointed" because of the disappointment I feel from this entire affair. This was easily the worst thing that has ever happened to Sikorsky, and Igor would die from a broken heart if he were alive to witness it.
Posted by: Severly disapointed at March 8, 2006 2:21 PM
You strikers are going to settle with the exact contract you had been offered. Only difference is you will lose several weeks worth of wages because a small group of unionites convinced you to strike...I'm convinced half of you don't even know why you voted strike!

From the Wall of Shame
Despite all of the pressure tactics used by the company, only a handful of people succumbed. The following are the names of people who have abandoned their fellow members and refuse to stand tall with the membership of Local 1150.
We are pleased to announce that this list has gotten smaller, as people have changed their minds and decided to return to the picket lines to walk with their brothers and sisters
More misinformation, smaller? Seems to be growing to me but I don't have a college degree so I'm not sure.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 2:24 PM
We will be lucky to settle for what we had been offered. I have a buddy who works for UI and a little known secret is that they got less than original offer after the strike but union and company sugared it up to make it look like it was worth it to the union rank and file when in reality they went back for less.

SO lets see... in 2 days the List of Intelligent People Who Are Not Sheep (aka Wall of Shame) has tripled in size. It now slightly exceeds 1% of the union returning to work.
You all realize that instead of embarrassing or shaming people that this list may accelerate people crossing the line? They now know who to talk to see if what the union leadership posts (i.e. that no production is occuring) is actually true. It also makes people bolder to come back since they will not be "the first".
What will Rocco do when the amount of people coming back reaches a really high number (say 10% of membership)? COntinue to post the names or hold back hoping people walking the line wont notice the amount of former union guys going into the plant?
A list of names only works to stop people if it actually causes them to go back to the picket line. If it does not it is just a growing tally of the people who will have jobs once the rest of you are let go.
ANyway, I just sat down last night, paid my mortgage and car payments, put some into savings, had the wife get groceries, etc.

An outside opinion. Get real about health care and other company paid benefits! Did you read that GM is stopping pension benefits for new employees. GM is not the first nor the last ones that will drop pensions in favor of 401Ks. Health care cost have hit the rest of the world. My first job was at the Bridgport Brass Company - remember that company! The union guys complained about their benefit cuts then - benefits the office workers never had. Well you don't see a Bridgeport Brass in Bridgeport anymore. Get real and keep your jobs! Don't let the unions make another company go south or across the USA boarder.

When you're at the rally tomorrow be sure to take a look around. You're going to see the same tired faces you've been looking at for the last 3 weeks. Hoffa and Dikko are going to spin it as the labor rally to end all labor rallies, but it's not. Nobody cares. The union official from the food workers union was all over WICC yesterday talking about bringing his people up to walk with the strikers, 4:00pm from Stop & Shop in Stratford -- that sure turned into a non-event, they couldn't fill the minivan!. My brother is in the Steelworkers union and no one in his local wants to waste their time going to that sideshow. Their opinion is how can anyone be so stupid and maybe it's time to cut your losses.
NOBODY CARES ABOUT STUPID SELFISH PEOPLE

If this was just about healthcare there never would have been a strike. This is about Union GREED and now it has backfired. Now UTC has the opportunity to break the Union's back and get rid of them forever. UAW was forced out, no one from 1150 ever talks about that.

Friend whose husband is salary told me 400 as of yesterday. He got that from his boss. No way to tell for sure except that there are definetly more cars in parking lot, less people walking line, many recognizable faces driving in this morning getting jeered.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 3:18 PM
All these people striking are a disgrace to society. You are nothing more than greedy, spoiled cry babies who want as much as they can get. Look at what you are doing to EVERYONE around you-
1. The town of Stratford.
It is costing thousands of dollars for the town to patrol and secure the strike site. Yes, I realize that Sikorsky kicks in a bunch of money to the town in taxes but look at the water-front space they occupy!! It doesn't matter! If Sikorsky leaves, that land will be sold for millions and someone else will pay taxes on it. I don't have the facts, but I assume the union pays NOTHING (or very little) to the town and they are the ones who initiated and participate in the strike.
2. The local businesses
Not only are they losing money from this, they are also being bullied into supporting your crusade. Imagine being a local business and having a group come in and ask to support them. Now I realize that a part of the union patronizes these businesses, but if a business doesn't want to support them, then they will be shunned. Look at the website:
"If any member patronizes one of the below establishments and they are not displaying a sign, please contact Union Hall."
THAT IS A MOB MENTALITY! The business can only support the union by displaying a poster in their window? A sign is required? And if they are found to not comply by displaying a sign, what happens? They receive bad press or get shunned by the union. They have no choice but to just give in.
Dunkin' Donuts has corporate rules that don't allow for signs to be displayed, so they need to compensate by giving away free donuts and coffee?!! UNREAL! Just a simple, "We support the Union, isn't enough!"?!?! That is a blatant display of "What have you done for us today?" syndrome!
Stella's said they won't deliver a pizza to SIK because they refuse to cross the picket line. What if they HAD to do this for fear of going out of business? Would the union look kindly on that?!?
3. The taxpayer
MY taxes might go up because of your cause!! Is your cause going to lower MY healthcare costs? NO! So effectively, I have to pay for your desire to lower your own healthcare costs! How is that fair to me or any of the other 50,000 residents of Stratford?
4. Other misc. govt services
The town might need to cut services in other departmentsjust to cover the costs, which effect the whole town.
5. Other worker's jobs
Stella's is cutting back employee hours, the Mayor of Stratford is contemplating the idea of layoffs to cover the cost. HELLO! You trying to lower your own personal healthcare costs is COSTING OTHER PEOPLE MONEY AND POSSIBLY THEIR JOBS. How does that make you feel knowing that you will save an extra $2,000 a year in health costs while some people won't have jobs AT ALL?!?!?!!? And we are talking about jobs where people get paid close to minimum wage while the least paid Union worker still makes $35K a year!!
6. Traffic
Do I have to remind everyone of the mess it is causing?
PS...I am NOT in the Union, I am NOT a salary worker, I have no affliation with Sikorsky, I am just a Stratford resident who has healthcare coverage similar to the national average. I pay my taxes, abide by the law and I find a new job when I am unsatisfied. No one else suffers because I am unhappy with my situation. I take responsibilty for my actions.

I was standing at gate in Stratford yesterday and i would say at least 100 people I recognized went in that are union members
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 3:35 PM
400 hundred would not suprise me because it would be in the best interest for the union to not put a list of all the people going back. The more that return will make more consider returning. I spoke with HR today and they seem to want to help me more than Rocco, so I am going to go with whoever is going to help me support my family and $232 a week isn't going to do it.

Posting names is such a stupid thing to do - everyone has a story - who is supporting their parents, who has a child that needs medical treatments, who is working a part-time job that between the union money and the part-time job can't feed and shelter their families - who didn't vote for the strike because they need the money now. I don't blame people that need the job - I blame greedy union leaders. I bet my bottom dollar your union leader is not taking $230 home a week.

Just stop. It's said to see the handful of idiots
that are just on this blog to cause conflict between the hourly and salary folks. Can people really be this vicious??? Look at the bonds that have been broken due to the few instigators. SAD, REAL SAD.
Remember, the Upper Management tier doesn't care about any of you. The faster the company out sources it product the sooner all, including salary will be out of a job. I'm sure they are laughing at both sides..... you both need each other in order for the company to succeed.
Remember, your all expendable regardless of who is or isn't getting a pay check. Everyone should be on the line......The fight should be how they are outsourcing your jobs....and everyone their should be earning more, even treated better. Remember, the lay offs will come, yet the salary people will be hand picked. They don't care if you have 25 yrs. So when all is said and done, and there is no more work..........YOU WILL ALL LOOSE!!!!!! Union and non-union. Hourly and Salary. The only way that company will stay strong is if you band together and drop the BS.
The fight can't be won until your are all on the same side.
Although, I don't work there, I have been in your shoes. You should all WAKE UP and get this resolved. It's going to be a sad day in Ct. when Sikorsky leaves.......like so many others have.
Good Luck to all.......

Between 50 and 100 have crossed, not all the names are on the Wall of Fame. Also, HR is not accepting everybody that calls to return. The list is growing as we speak, it takes time to process everyone.
Also, you might want to look at those trucks going thru the gate. Those are aircraft going out to be assembled, and the JOBS that go with them. Yes the work is going slowly, but it IS going both in the shop and out.
This union picked the Wrong battle here folks. The company is NOT going to cave in on this Health Care. The people that are crossing are being treated very well and working OT with No Problem.
Take a long hard look at this folks. The union has let us down BIG TIME. This contract was a fair one. It's now time to dump Rocco and his Bright Idea and get back to work! I AM

Hate to tell you Rocco, there is a lot more names to add to your list that crossed. My name will be added soon. So far you have done nothing for us. Can't wait to make a paycheck again, instead of walking YOUR picket line. For what? I told you before, I happen to LOVE my job at Sikorsky's. I will not find one better. Throw in the towel and get us all back to work before it's too late. Save your union.

My god... I that woman still here with her "BAAAH BAAAH BAAAH" posts? Can't ya think up something more original? "CAW CAW CAW"... you old crow!
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:09 PM
True, or BS. Rocco has not been to the Stratford line for the last three days. Please, someone who really spoke to him or saw him
Posted by: Dan at March 8, 2006 4:09 PM
Looks like the union is keeping info from members, now its up to 58. I'm sure it's closer to 4-500 like has been reported. Union disinformation makes me sick.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:11 PM
add me to the list
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:11 PM
I know of no one who has seen or spoke to Rocco the last 3 days. Only info from strike captains is that they get messages from him 3rd party. Maybe he is afraid to come out in public because he does not want the last of the faithful see him get an earful from the majority. Just a thought!
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:14 PM
Last I heard from Rocco he was muttering something about "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain." Wonder what that was all about?!
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:14 PM
I do not have a dog in this fight, but if the local union President has not been there, it is a shame. The most important fight for the workers lives, and he has something more important? That is not a good sign. All the plans should have been made months in advance. He should be the guy walking more hours than anyone. Leadership by example.
Posted by: Dan at March 8, 2006 4:15 PM
Anyone on that above list is urged to reconsider their decision. If you have no regrets... fine. If you feel that you made the wrong move and now regret it... your problem can be resolved very easily! Instead of going in to work tomorrow, just park you car and join us back on the picket line. Talk to your friends and co-workers. YOU WILL BE WELCOMED BACK AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. Just give it some thought...
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:17 PM
I will not be at ralley tomorrow, preparing to go back to work and support my family. I will be happy my name will be on wall........
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:19 PM
That list is fiction, so many more than that have crossed I do not know how long they think we will believe FICTION!
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:19 PM
I see that there is a 'Lost and Found' on the 1150 website. 3,600 people lost their jobs and a bunch of Mexicans found them.
Posted by: Roberto Gonzalez Diaz at March 8, 2006 4:20 PM
What will you all do when the union circus cluster fuck is all done tommorrow? Do you think UTC will turn around and say: oh my god what have we done? Please let them back in, we made a tremendous mistake. Lets put this in perspective, once you meatheads start a riot and get you asses thrown in jail for doing something stupid, and you know you will. The union heads will charge you all up, youll probably storm the gates and set the place on fire. Just take a step backwards and think about it, managements better off hiring mexicans and brazilians or any other warm blooded eager to work person to do your job for a hot meal and pat on the head.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:20 PM
I personally saw Rocco at Union Hall today. He has been there averaging 16 hours/day EVERY DAY. If you're so concerned about it, go down to the Hall and see for yourself!
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:21 PM
the scab list does not seem to show the agency people that came back - add those numbers in the tally and it gets BIGGER
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:21 PM
If Rocco has been a ghost the last three days, why am I out there with sore feet and indigestion if he doe not have the common courtesy to speak to anyone?
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:22 PM
As posted before, don't forget the agency workers. The union won't give you a true account of workers crossing, just like they didn't give you the truth about this contract. Even with this health care, we are still under the average copay for health care. This was a fair contract that we screwed out of. All we will get out of this now is lost wages and lost jobs down the road.

Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:23 PM
I should not have to go to the Hall to see our leader, he should be out with the troops. He is just a typical union mobster type, looking for his cut of the action.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:25 PM
What in the hell is Rocco doing for sixteen hours each day at the hall?! Watching the dwindling press coverage of this enormous cluster f__k? Is he staring at the phone, hoping it will ring and that Steven Finger will be on the other end begging you all to come back? Sixteen hours my dying @$$.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 8, 2006 4:25 PM
From what I hear, he curled up in a fetal position sucking his thumb for sixteen hours each day. What he does with the other eight hours, I don't even want to imagine.

This strike is such a failure it is not even funny anymore. Management types will study this for years and labor will pay for it for years. Unions across the country cannot be happy with the way this is all playing out. We look like fools.

The quicker you all realize you will make no difference, the faster you all can get back to work. Furthermore, your union should pay the Town of Stratford for the unnecessary costs to pretect your sorry butts. This might aid to stop the closure of yet another school because of your poor decisions. You call yourselves a family, family starts and ends at home not at the picket playground.

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION
Salary workers unite.
I just came from a meeting of fellow salary workers, and we all agree we are tired of being used as pawns in this labor dispute between the Union and UTC.
We would like to ask all of our salary workers, from all UTC divisions that are working in Sikorsky, to take Wednesday March 15, 2006 off, to force the two sides together.
If we all just take off one day, hopefully we can go back to our normal work life.

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION
This comment is false, false false.
The new President of SAC strongly suggested that all salaried workers take a well deserved day off today. There was no meeting of salaried employees.
It is sad that some individuals are using this forum to manipulate people.
Let's stick to facts, feelings and information that everyone can benefit from and not lies and reprisals

To all My Dear Brothers & Sisters, Like myself you have all received a letter telling you that they want us back, If you missed the letter, (which the bastards had printed by a scab outfit, or they forgot to put the union bug at the bottom of the letter). They are asking us to call and tell them we want to come back.
PLEASE CALL THE NUMBER ADD (STAR), *67 before dialing the number thus blocking the number your calling from, so that would be *67-203-386-4966. After the intro select option 3. Leave a message that you will come back for the 80/20 salary health care plan. AS LONG AS IT IS BACKED WITH THE SALERY PENSION PLAN, SALERY SAVINGS PLAN, SALERY SICK LEAVE PLAN, Oh and while we are at it throw in a version of the parking plan for hourly, ANY ONE at or above labor grade 3! You may want to add that Lockheed is hiring in NY State for the EH-101. At least we can catch a break on the traffic & cost of housing.
KNIGHTHAWK HELP ME OUT HERE, KEEP THIS GOING & BROTHERS & SISTERS PLEASE DONT CALL MORE THAN ONCE AS THE MAIL BOX WILL FILL UP & MAKE THE $10,000. 00 Full page add WORTHLESS!

To all of these people saying revote. That would be a good idea IF the original vote were corrupt or fraudulent in some way. I assure you it was not. I was there. Until another offer is put forth on the table there is nothing to vote on. THE people have SPOKEN!
Revote? What do you think this is a third world democracy? Keep voting until they get it right? We got it right the first time!
Now I have to go call H/R!

Rule Number 1 is it is the company’s job to protect us ALL from a hostile work environment.
Why then is the company creating one by allowing people to cross? They cannot force us to eat at the same tables with the scabs, talk to them, or help them out in any way. These people, (the scabs), are very valuable to the company, for another week or 2 until this thing is settled. After that they become a liability, no longer an asset. A pain in the ass if you will. They will become lonely people. AS for the young kids that crossed I blame their parents. These are misguided young kids whose parents should have advised them to sit it out. For these young kids, Or ANYONE else who is new in a job. Your learning is over. You will now be told there is the blueprint you figure it out! In reviewing this I wonder if the scabs can sue UTC for creating a hostile work environment?

Throwing Nails, & The Wall of Shame
What type of person crosses the line against his brothers & sisters? Lets look at the Nail thrower. While I do not know him, he was out there supporting his union in a misguided way. He represents everything that is the people on the wall of shame, in this for ME. Not willing to take a stand on anything UNLESS IT BENNEFITS THEM.
Another Wall of Shamer who will remain nameless, (and it’s not the nailer), least he sue me. This guy is a company man all the way. He would do what ever it takes to get the job done. When things broke right it was always, “WE GOT THE JOB DONE. But if a problem came up, he didn't hesitate to name names. Then he hurt his back. Out of work for a dogs age. This guy is not back one day & he is showing all of us his barn & the work he got done on it while he was out on comp. Did any one turn him in? NO. Don’t try it again you scabby prick. You won’t have to worry about the company filming you while you are on workmen’s comp, I’ll be doing it for them!
