Connecticut Post file photo
On June 7, 1960...
The date the last strike at Sikorsky Aircraft began was a big news day:
- Actress Katharine Hepburn was getting ready to appear in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Theatre ’s production of "Twelfth Night."
- Argentina,a haven for Nazis in hiding, demanded that Israel return Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann.
- Chile was rocked by two major earthquakes.
What things cost in 1960:
- A gallon of gasoline:28 cents.
- A croquet set at Howlands department store:$9.77.
- A Bulova 3-D precision portable phonograph with four speakers, dual channel/8-watt amplifier: $99.95 at Spector’s.
