    Gimme, Gimme, Gimme...Please?

October 17 was the kickoff of Madonna's whirlwind media blitz to promote her forthcoming album, Confessions on a Dancefloor (hitting record stores November 21), and her new documentary, I'm Going to Tell You a Secret. Monday at 12 PM radio stations across the world unleashed her new single, "Hung Up," an electronic pop confection that teases the unsuspecting listener with promise of non-stop nights on the dancefloor.

Now as I listened, my sample sense went on high alert! That beat! Somewhere in the corners of my mind I knew I had heard it before! It was ABBA, that Swedish supergroup of the 70s, who gave us such pop gems as Dancing Queen, Fernando and Waterloo.

Madge begged ABBA for permission to sample their hit "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (A Man After Midnight), saying it was out of respect for their music.

Madonna looks to her past to inspire her future. In order to create her new dance record, she went back to her youth. One can only imagine Madonna reminiscing about the nights she would sneak into clubs and dance the nights away in joyful abandon, letting the beat take her away and dreaming of how a young girl from Detroit, Michigan would conquer the world.

All I can say, as a Madonna fan, is that I am excited about her new album. As fresh and creative as her last few albums have been, I can't wait to hit the dancefloor with my girls as a sassy Madonna blasts from the speakers. Until then I'll just keep tapping my feet and humming, counting down the days for my dancefloor confession.
