Richard Dreyfuss to speak at SVA meeting
Actor and Oscar-winner Richard Dreyfuss will be the keynote speaker at the annual meeting of the Bridgeport School Volunteer Association, the group that, among many other things, gets adults like you and me to read to Bridgeport schoolchildren.
Dreyfuss' appearance will coincide with SVA's 40th anniversary. The breakfast meeting will take place Sept. 11, 2007 at the Bpt. Holiday Inn, at the intersection of Main St. and Fairfield Ave., from 7:45 to 9 a.m.

I have nothing but admiration for Mr. Dreyfuss, both as an actor and as a champion of causes that, in the main, help out the little guy. The quality of inner-city schools is among his many concerns. One of his specific areas if interest is the need to better-educate the nation's youth on subject of civics.
Think civics is dull? Try this on for size: You're driving late at night and you're pulled over by a cop. The inside of your car is clean -- nothing that could be considered illegal is in sight. The officer says he wants to search your car. What do you do?
a. Tell him "Sure, go ahead".
b. Tell him to go get a search warrant.
c. Mash the gas pedal into the carpet and speed off.
The correct answer is "b". (By the way, this should be reason enough to clean the interior of your vehicle. The police do have a right to examine your car without a warrant is they see something suspicious.)
One source told me that Mr. Dreyfuss wants to chat with city high school students while he's here.
