Jennifer Butler plans a fall fashion show
OK, I'll have to admit it's been awhile since I dressed up in drag, so I can't claim to be an expert on dresses.
Let's see ... when I was four, I played Jane and my older sister played Tarzan, but that was only because she was better at speaking in two-word sentences. And then there was that Halloween party in 1992...
Be that as it may, there's a little dress shop in the heart of Fairfield that has some really incredible wearable works of art, if I may be so bold. I'm talking about Jennifer Butler, the dressmaker whose skill at the Singer machine is matched only by her rapier wit.
She's having her fall fashion show on Sept. 6 in the Fairfield Theatre Company, which is a few paces away from the Fairfield railroad station. (For those of you with kids, it's not far from Blinn's)
For tickets, call the Fairfield Theatre box office, (203) 259-1036. It's also a benefit for the theater.
Here, she talks about the show:

Extreme Makeover
In case you been under a rock the last couple weeks, the TV crew from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was on Hollester Avenue on Bridgeport's lower East End.
They were there to completely rebuild a house from the foundation up, in about 10 days. Yep, they poured the foundation, too.
Here are some photos from the scene; these were taken last Sunday (July 29, 2007). No day of rest for this crew!

This is what Hollister Ave. looks like; that's McKinley School on the left.

Everyone tries to get a look at Paige Hemmis, one of the Makeover's design team members.

Paige by the fence.

With a young fan.

I ask you, have you ever seen a clean crane at a construction site? Well, here's one.

Even the dump truck looked nice! Mike Gulick is the volunteer contractor for the job, who's building the house with a volunteer crew. Kind of like Habitat for Humanity on steroids. A house like this would normally take the better part of a year to build. Gulick said the all the materials were donated, too.

Here's the tent with the T-shirts.
