    2008 Southport-Westport House Tour

OK, you nosy people out there ... here's your big chance.

Friday, May 2, 2008, is the date for the annual Southport-Westport House Tour to benefit the Near & Far charity.

The N&F people promised me that none of the houses will be for sale.

That's good, because the idea here is to raise money for the needy, not to give a real estate agent an easy $150,000 payday. My spies will be out there making sure they keep their promise.

There will be three homes each in Southport and Westport. Actually, someone said that one of the "Southport" homes might be up on Greenfield Hill. We'll see.

Anyhoo, each home will be decked out with a theme. (I suggested a scary Halloween theme for one of them, but for some reason, everyone thought it was a lousy idea. Can you believe that?) Here are some words from N&F's gushing press release:

"Visit a sophisticated yacht christening luncheon on Harbor Road in Southport, with ceremony and champagne on the Sound. Or, take in the views of sparkling Southport Harbor at a nautical-themed birthday party. Run for the Roses at a Kentucky Derby barbecue, savor the surroundings at a wine tasting in a historic Village house and summon the muses at a contemporary home that serves as both gallery and working studio for its artist owner in Westport.

"A double bill awaits in Westport, featuring a Poochie Playdate and a book-signing celebration. Gear and goodies, creature comforts and vet-approved victuals will keep tails wagging. Lifestyle expert and television personality Mar Jennings will host an indoor picnic for pampered pups at his garden studio in Westport, where he’ll also have a book-signing for his new book, "Life on Mar's."

So, there you have it, to borrow an expression from Mar.

So, get your tickets on the Near & Far Web site, and don't forget your bedroom slippers!
