    Adieu, Dubie?

Interesting stuff from Greg Logan Sunday, most notably the presumed departure of Wade Dubielewicz and the presumed return of Tim Jackman.

    Tell the world I do

(Server issues means this was delayed from Friday and then added to on Saturday. Sorry. Not like there was anything all that timely in here to begin with, though.)

Maybe the perfect New Haven Nighthawks stat, from Jason Chaimovitch through Jonathan Bombulie: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has lost seven Calder Cup Finals games in a row. The record is 10, held by New Haven: 1978, 1979, 1989. So close, yet so far away.

Vegas tied it up 2-2 late last night. Game 5 is Monday.

Meanwhile, Michel Therrien is still talking about obstruction. Presumably, for four years.

Hockey people thank their stars for the Canadian Dollar ascendant. United States tourists, not so much.

Here's a Cail MacLean story from those on the scene.

"We'll get 'em tomorrow," I said last night, which meant today. And then, well, we didn't. Oh well. Fun while it lasted...

What sort of words are they making kids spell nowadays? (Hat tip: Neil Best and a commenter.)

Had Masuk-NFA lacrosse today. Got up at 11 and checked weather.com. The map was a bucolic little snapshot of Connecticut... with a wall of green and yellow and red blobs bearing down and taking up the whole left side of the picture. Foreboding. The hour-by-hour projection was something like "11 a.m. -- mostly cloudy," "noon -- isolated t-storms," "1 p.m. -- strong t-storms," "2 p.m. -- repent." Then I went, and it drizzled before the game, and by halftime, around 2, the sun was out. I'll take it. Especially since the current radar has this front of solid red about 90 minutes away.

Naugatuck's softball team has four girls named "Melissa" in sequence on its roster. Misses* Kirschbaum and LaBonte are freshmen, Miss Salamon (the only starter) is a senior, and Miss Miller is a sophomore. The Baby Name Wizard says Melissa plummeted from third to seventh to 31st from the 1970s to the 1990s as a name for a baby girl. But obviously not 1990-94 in the Valley.

Anyway, Corinna Hussey cranked a two-out homer for Naugatuck to beat Bunnell on Friday, which naturally sticks a song in my head.

*-Or "Missies," maybe, depending on your nicknaming.

    Programming note 2

The NHL Network has picked up the rest of the Final. The Wilkes-Barre games have all been moved to 7:30 to accomodate.

    Viewing party at whose house?

    Watched "Lost," but...

The Wolves took a 3-0 lead and never let the Pens catch up in a 5-4 win. A couple of PPGs for both teams, but the Wolves got theirs in only four chances. Goligoski had three points for WBS, which has another shot Sunday afternoon in Game 2.

Noted on John Walton's blog: Cail MacLean has retired.

Paul Lukas of Uni Watch discovers the Danbury Mad Hatters' sweater designs, white, dark and alt. Play around with the Bush League Factor on the main logo, but y'know what I like about the whites? No name. The logo stands alone. Sweet. Meanwhile, Filip Bondy blasts USA Soccer's jerseys.

Congrats to Neil Stevens and Mike Emrick, Hall of Famers.

And RIP, Luc Bourdon, dead in a motorcycle accident, and actor Harvey Korman.

    TV note

Press release this morning says the NHL Network will take the Wolves' feed and broadcast at least Games 1 and 2 of the Calder Cup Final live, if you've sprung for it.
