Halfway there!
A Yalie (not that one): Just got word that Joe Callahan will round out the defense. Big right-hander had a good year for Portland after signing with Anaheim last year. He counts as a veteran (actually, he's under 320, so they could still have three spots to play with). Fits the summer's MO so far: good pro, no NHL experience, but they may change that at some point this year.
Still a forward to come, no doubt.
Some stuff from the weekend: Sean Bergenheim opted for salary arbitration. More on Konopka from Lindsay Kramer -- interesting that Konopka still hasn't signed the contract, though. More on Marc Denis from Garry McKay, who adds that Eric Manlow won't be back in Hamilton. Michael Russo reports Chicago's Jesse Schultz to the Wild.
Doug Weight has finally been added to the Islanders' NHL.com roster.
For some reason, Matt Carle isn't making a promotional appearance for San Jose next week... Oh, RIGHT.
Good story from Mike Vaccaro.
And when morning breaks Tuesday: six days until rookie camp, 73 days until Islanders camp, 83 days until Bridgeport camp, 87 days until the probable exhibition opener, inside 100 days until the season. Tick away, clock...
