    Seven down

Just got the release: Danis, Colliton, Fritz, Jackman, McLean, Smith and Lee to Bridgeport; Sutton, Campoli and Sillinger to IR. Bailey and Skinner and Hillen stick.

(Oh, and sorry: Yeah, AHL teams can dress 18+2 this year.)

    Mr Fornabaio,

Could you please clarify why Nikita Filatov who was born in 1990 has an AHL option where Columbus reportedly wants to send him while the Islanders with Josh Bailey are in a situtation where he was born in 1989 and cannot play for Bridgeport with his circumstances Windsor or New York after nine games?

Filatov isn't part of the Canadian juniors system. The NHL has an agreement with the CHL not to send any of their players to the AHL until they are 20 years old, but instead to send them back to their junior team. The US hockey system (US Dev, USHL, and NCAA) has no such agreement, which explains Okposo's appearance in Bridgeport last season. The international leagues used to have some kind of deal, but that's not in effect anymore.

    Thank You Andy.

Tom Reed in the Columbus Dispatch on 10/3 seemed to write a lot of the same things.

I know this goes back a decade ago with a lot of changes to agreements but I guess DiPietro could not have played in the AHL or the Islanders decided on IHL Chicago (2000-01) at the time for him to play with veterans because there was no Bridgeport franchise of primary Isles affiliate for him to start.

I guess the next year Chicago joined the AHL which is how Bridgeport with DiPietro played Chicago for the Calder Cup.
