    Tuesday thoughts

Hey all, I'm back, with some thoughts on Tuesday's TV offerings...

Gilmore Girls: I missed the first 20 minutes or so (hey, even a dedicated TV writer has to clean her closet from time to time), but managed to pick it up pretty quickly. This was a fairly decent one, though they've already used the whole "Richard has a heart attack" thing before. Maybe it makes me a bad person, but I was kind of hoping they'd do something really shocking and kill him off. I know -- I love Richard, too, but it might provide the story with an interesting direction. What if he died, and a widowed, heart-broken Emily insisted on having Lorelai live with her? With her relationship with Christopher obviously doomed, Lorelai, in a moment of weakness, would give in and live with her...and find out that she kind of enjoys it. Emily, after years of serving Richard, has molded herself into such an ideal wife that she makes a marvelous living companion. Then, Lorelai, realizing that she's once again getting trapped in her mother's web, finally decides to pull her life together and either be independent for good, or open herself up to a stable relationship with a man.
But, I don't think that will happen...
Veronica Mars: Grieco! Grieco! Grieco! Sure, the show might not have Ed Begley Jr. anymore, but at least Richard Grieco made a return appearance last night. God bless him and his gloriously skeevy ways. In other "Mars" news, I must say I'm kind of tired of all of the disturbing plotlines about women in crisis. The rape storyline was upsetting enough, but last night,we got a pregnant girl who was slipped a morning after pill, miscarried, then hired Veronica to find out who did it. And, horrifingly enough, it was the girl's roommate and best friend. Yikes. Maybe I grew up sheltered, but I don't think things like that happened when I was in college.
Dirt: This show is becoming my new favorite guilty pleasure, especially with last night's surprisingly effective turn by Paul Reubens (aka Pee-Wee Herman) as a washed-up reporter. Reubens, despite being an odd duck, is always fun to watch, but I think this the first time I've seen him take on a truly dramatic role. And you know what? The guy can act!
