    NBC news

So, NBC revealed its plans for next season this week, including the renewal of critcally-acclaimed, yet low-rated "Friday Night Lights."
In addition to that heartening bit of news (about which I have a column running on Sunday), here are some highlights from the announcement.

    * "ER" is back...for the last time:: The seemingly unstoppable force that is "ER" will FINALLY come to a close after next season, the series' 15th. There are rumors that the show will bring back some familiar faces for the final season, including former cast member Noah Wyle. Wonder if George Clooney will show up. It's not like the guy's busy.
    * "Scrubs" out: NBC's other medical show, the quirky sitcom "Scrubs," will not be back on NBC this season. There are still rumors that the series will jump to ABC next season, but they are as yet unconfirmed.
    * "Office" spins off: The Super Bowl is months away, but NBC has already announced which show will air in the coveted time slot following the game -- a special telecast of the sitcom "The Office," as well as a new spin-off of that quirky series. Absolutely no details about the new show. Does that make anyone else nervous?
    * Grounded on "Life": I really didn't like the pilot for NBC's dramedy "Life," but I've read such positive things about since, that I'm considering giving it another chance. I'm especially considering it now that I've learned that one of my favorite TV actors, Donal Logue ("Grounded for Life," "Knights of Prosperity") is joining the cast next season. Logue rocks, and is enough to draw me to anything.
*New shows! New shows!:And, of course, NBC announced a slew of new shows. Some were already annoounced, including "Kath & Kim," a U.S. version of the Australian sitcom, which is slated to star Molly Shannon and Selma Blair. The most encouraging new show is "Kings."Don't know much about it, but it stars the FANTASTIC Ian McShane of "Deadwood," so I'm in, baby.
