Elena's status still in limbo, early Wikipedia report false
The saga surrounding the future of heralded UConn recruit Elena Delle Donne took another unexpected turn today when someone had some fun at the expense of Husky Nation. As it turns out, for now anyway, it was just a hoax.
If you checked out Elena’s Wikipedia page this morning it stated that she had made up her mind and she was not coming to UConn to play for a team that will be the favorite to win the national championship this coming season.
Here’s how it read in her biography: ``Following her senior season in high school (2007-08), Delle Donne received a basketball scholarship from the University of Connecticut. During the summer of 2008, Delle Donne dropped out of school and is currently taking a `long personal break’ from basketball and college. Elena will play for the University of Delaware volleyball team, forgoing her scholarship at UConn.’’
If you now visit the page the final line regarding her playing volleyball at Delaware has been removed. Delaware coach Bonnie Kenny dispelled this news in an e-mail early this afternoon.
I asked her if Elena was playing for the Blue Hens and if she had talked to Elena. ``No and no I have not spoken to her,’’ Kenny said.
A definitive decision from Elena, who abruptly left Storrs after just two days on campus June 3, is expected to come shortly. The fall semester at UConn begins Aug. 25. Right now we’ll continue to wait. Maybe tomorrow her Wikipedia page will reveal that she’s decided to play football at Middle Tennessee State with her brother, Gene. Hey, you never know what a hacker will come up with next.
Stay tuned.
